Today I am going to discuss about a question which I face daily as a PTE coach. Well, there is one question I hear more than any other question from the students is “Sir, how long will it take me to get eight bands in the PTE?”. I know its a million dollar question for anyone who has ambitious goals either for migration or academic purpose. Students are often looking for a magic number “The 8 Bands/superior level” with a definitive timeline such as two weeks, one month or may be three months and so on. When I am asked such question, honestly, my answer has always been the same, and its probably not the one you’d want to hear as I always say “Its depends entirely on you. Yes, you read it right Its entirely depends on you. Some of you say its a vague reply but believe me its the most practical reply and probably we are not accustomed to hear bitter truth because one must accept that the journey to a high score in the PTE is not a standardized race where everyone starts from the same line and runs at the same pace. Its a deeply personal process and affected my many factors such as your past experience, your current skill of English, and daily life circumstances in your life. The reason behind to write this blog is to break down exactly what “it depends on you” means and why I say this, so you can stop searching for a universal timeline and start building your own realistic roadmap to success.

Let’s begin to understand why a single timeline is impossible? well, for that you only need to look at the vast range of students experiences. In my career, I have witnessed the entire spectrum of PTE preparation journeys, and I must say that they often fall between two starkly different extremes.

On the one part of the world, I have seen my students achieve that magic number “8 bands or Superior level” in as little as 10 days or 15 days. Some of them accomplish this with minimal, if any, dedicated study. They might review the test format, practice a few questions on Amin Migration’s portal as per instructions, and walk into the exam center to achieve Steller score. Now, you’d be wondering they must have found some secret tricks, right? See, this is not because they found secret tricks rather, they were already standing at the finish line before the race had begun, they were equipped with years of accumulated English language skills.

Now let’s discuss the other part of the world, there are abundance of students from YouTube University who have been struggling with the PTE for three, four and some of them even for five years. Despite countless of attempts, 10-12 hours of study, and unwavering dedication, yet they find themselves unable to cross the 50 out of 90 in the PTE. I can understand that such students journey is one of frustration and perseverance, highlighting that efforts alone do not always guarantee a quick result if the foundational skills are not yet in place.

So, these two examples prove a crucial point that first, your PTE preparation time is relative and second, it is not determined by a course or a set of tips and tricks, but by the person using them.

I have mentioned about the factors in above passage. so, lets understand first that “How the Internal Factors affect or shape your journey?” To understand this, you must accept that your starting point for PTE is not day one of your coaching, it began many years ago when you were in primary school. The Internal Factor relies on your history, skills, and learning style are the foundation upon which your preparation is built. Think about your “history” or “background” with the English Language. How much of your life has been spent actively learning and using English? Are you from English Medium School (not college)? Do you use English daily at your workplace or at home? Do you read English books or watch movies/series in English without subtitles? You know this long-term exposure is the single most significant factor. Someone who has spent a decade communicating in English has a deeply ingrained understanding of the language’s rhythm, structure, and vocabulary that can not be replicated or learned in a few weeks of study. This is the primary reason that why students achieve 8 bands or superior level within 10 days or 15 days of preparation. In short, such students preparation started a decade before they even heard of the PTE.

Additionally, there are abundance of students who do not know their starting point. So, you must know and honestly assess yourself against the five core competencies the PTE evaluates.

(1) Logical Reasoning Skills:

You all know if you are not from YouTube University that PTE is more than templates and short cuts now but a language test and a test of logic. Topics like Summarize Written Text or Summarize Group Discussion demand from you to quickly identify main ideas, understand the relationship between various points, and construct a coherent summary rather than picking random lines without any logic and connecting with random conjunction. This way you can not reach to highest level. So, your ability to think critically and logically in examination hall and under pressure is paramount.

(2) Reading Skills:

Mere effective reading for the PTE is not casual. It demands speed, accuracy, and ability to comprehend complex academic texts. You must be able to scan for specific information, as per the tone of the author, and make inferences from the text, and all these when a clock is making ticking down

(3) Vocabulary (the most common problem):

First and foremost, you can not negotiate a broad and flexible vocabs for 8 bands or a superior level. It allows you to understand the nuanced meanings in reading and listening passages and more importantly, to express your own ideas with precision and clarity in speaking and writing tasks.

(4) Grammar:

The PTE’s AI scoring system will not forgive you when it comes to grammar. Your control over sentence formation, use of tenses, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement is constantly being evaluated by the AI. Remember, a strong grammatical foundation is the skeleton that holds your language together, without it everything else falls apart.

(5) Collocation:

Collocation means the words that naturally go together. If you want a hallmark of language fluency, a strong command over collocation is must. For example, in speaking AI recognizes these natural word pairings, and using them correctly will significantly boost your score in both writing and speaking along with reading itself.

After discussing all these, finally, you must consider how quickly you can grasp new concepts and strategies. I often call this “productivity” or “learning efficiency” like some of my students just attend the lecture, understand the concept and that’s it, they start immediately to apply it exactly as they are taught when they are practicing. On the other hand, some other students might need to spend more hours to understand the exact same material to achieve the same level of comprehension. Hang on! Let me set the record straight first that This is not a measure of intelligence but its simply a reflection of different learning style, levels of concentration and determination, and obviously last but not the least prior knowledge. So, its very important to understand your personal learning pace is key to set a realistic study schedule rather than comparing yourself with others. Here at Amin Migration every students schedule, materials and everything is personalized as we know that all students are not equal.

I fairly discussed about “Internal Factors” now let’s talk about “External Factors and Ground Realities“. You know that your PTE preparation does not exist in a 3-month coaching bubble only. It must compete for time and energy with every other aspect of your life. These external factors can have as much impact on your set timeline as your English skills.

Your personal situation dictates how much mental energy you can dedicate to your practice, right? Some people are in a happy, at stable place in their lives and have good amount of ample time which allows them to focus fully on their goals. Others are not so fortunate and have many other things in their lives to deal with such as family responsibilities, financial stress, or personal challenges that consume their emotional and mental resources.

I have seen from some of my students who are working professionals and for them work pressure is another massive factor. I do understand that under such circumstances its incredibly difficult. I remember one incident that when I was taking grammar lecture, one of my students was attending the lecture right from his office and the manager standing behind him was asking for an update. So, a demanding job can leave you mentally exhausted at the end of the day, and to practice with little capacity left for the intense practice to achieve 8 bands or Superior level becomes difficult and that PTE preparation requires to achieve high score. This is often untold story of the students struggling for years, they are not just battling the test but they are battling exhaustion from life’s other demands.

Among all the most important factor is your mindset. Having discussed both internal and external factors, I want to tell you the one element that you have the most control over “Your Mindset”. This is where you can make the biggest difference irrespective of where you are and who you are.

Another thing I have seen in mostly all the students is that they are not breaking free from the comparison trap. Yes, this is the most destructive thing you can do is compare your progress to someone else’s. You see that your friend, your siblings, your spouse got 90/90 after preparing for just a month and so on, while you have been studying for months, giving “ATTEMPTS PE ATTEMPTS” but no success and then you immediately ask “why? we both started coaching from same institute, at same time, did practice the same, everything was perfect so what went wrong with me that I did not score?”

Let me tell you my dear friend, this line of thinking is a trap. As a coach, I can tell you that this mindset is the single biggest obstacle between you and your progress. So next time when such thoughts come in your mind, you should not ignore every unique factor I’ve discussed in this blog that your friends history with English, their inherent skillset, their learning aptitude, their grasping power, and their situation. Remember, comparison breeds frustration and self doubts, pulling your focus away from the only thing and that matters the most to build your path to success.

One more thing is the Power of self-awareness and acceptance. When you get your negative score, the solution is to learn to accept the score. This does not mean giving up. It means starting with an honest, cleared aye assessment of your reality, free yourself from myths and YouTube University and take your time to understand who you are, what your current skill level is, and what situation you are in.

Are you starting with a strong foundation in grammar but a poor vocabs? If answer is yes then accept it. That tells you where to focus your energy. If you have only one hour to practice just because of work or family? Accept it. That tells you to be ruthlessly efficient with your time.

You must realize that this self-awareness and acceptance is not a sign of weakness but it is your greatest strategic move. Once you know your true starting point, you can create a realistic, targeted plan and you will stop chasing an imaginary timeline like I have to achieve superior level or 8 bands in a month or so. Now you begin to take deliberate, meaningful steps forward. It is only when you know exactly where you are that you can begin to march towards your destination.

In conclusion, If you are wondering that how long does it take to achieve superior level or 8 bands in the PTE, the answer remains the same “it depends on you”. It depends on the English you learned in school, the skills you developed over the time to learn the English, the time you can allot to your practice and the focus you can muster when life is stressful. I always tell my students stop looking for a shortcut or a magic number “8 bands or Superior Level”. Instead, look inward. Analyze your strengths and weaknesses, and be honest about the realities of your present life. Use that knowledge to build a personal, sustainable, and effective preparation plan and if you can not figure out the answer “how to achieve it”, rest assured we are here to guide you, walk into Amin Migration and you will get the solution of your all doubts and myths with realistic goals.

Always remember that your PTE journey is yours alone. Embrace it, own it, and walk it at your own pace only. That is the true secret to reach your desire destination.

Best of Luck!
